DO YOU REALLY NEED IT?
Many of you are probably asking the question, “Do I really need someone providing “on-site” training to learn how to fly professional drones?”
My unbiased answer… Yes, and here’s why.
When I (Mike Gentilini, Jr. – founder of VidMuze) first got started in aerial cinematography back in 2012, I had hundreds of questions, and no one was there to answer those questions because the aerial industry was so new. There were no tutorials, hardly any instructions and definitely no professional advice. This left me guessing and assuming which sadly led me to the wrong answers. This cost me unwanted expenses along with lost time. Certainly the “hard way” to learn things.
Now with my 17+ years of RC experience, and 5+ years of professional aerial cinematography, along with our teams’ 15 years of filmmaking experience, we have learned an incredible amount of information while being part of the drone industry.
LEARNING THE GEAR
A lot of folks think that flying a drone is easy. To some extent, they’re right. If you’re given a calm and sunny day, when the climate is warm, taking off and flying a drone around a bit can be easy. What about when you need to fly in 15 mph winds, or over the ocean or between trees with minimal clearance. Now it’s a different story.
I will go so far as to say flying a drone can be easy for some, however setting up your gear for the first time, maintaining the aerial gear, tuning your drone, tuning your gimbal, custom building cables, managing your LiPo batteries…. and the list goes on. This are all unknowns to someone just learning from ground zero, and because of this, flying a drone is not easy. Remember you don’t know what you don’t know. It’s not “just” about flying, there are many aspects to the entire job.
HOW TO FLY PROFESSIONALLY
Flying a drone is not like playing a video game. When you crash, there is no reset button. This is why learning how to fly professionally from an expert will significantly lower your risk of drone crashes. Flying a small $1000 dollar 6 lbs. quadcopter can be easy enough, but when flying a 30 lbs. heavy lifter with a high end cinema camera, now you’re flying $50,000+ worth of gear. Now you’re starting to sweat a little.
Remember any flying craft has to obey the laws of gravity. When flying a heavy lifter drone verses a smaller drone, the physics and flight characteristics are quite different. An inexperienced pilot will not know this. Many different elements affect the flight… payload’s weight, air temperature, wind, thermals, air density. This is why it’s best to have a professional train beginner pilots.
WHAT”S INCLUDED IN OUR “ON-SITE” TRAINING?
We provide as short as two full days of training and can provide as long as a week to a week and a half. It depends on the trainee. The shorter training sessions do require the trainee to absorb a lot of knowledge. For most, this isn’t any issue. It can just get a little overwhelming at times.
We do require our trainees to have flight experience with a drone. We require our trainees to have 25 hours logged with a smaller drone such as a DJI Phantom before beginning our training program.
We tailor our training to fit your needs. Most of our training programs include:
- Setting up aerial gear
- Setting up gimbal
- Tuning drone based on payload
- Tuning gimbal based on camera
- Flight training with drone only
- Flight training with payload (gimbal)
- How to maintain gear
- Charging LiPo Batteries
- Caring for LiPos Batteries
- Provide training with soldering and custom cable designing
WHERE DOES THE TRAINING TAKE PLACE?
That’s up to you. We can provide our training here in Asheville, NC or we can travel to you. Travel expenses will be covered by you, the client.
HOW DO WE GET STARTED?
Once you meet our training requirements (25 hr. logged flights), you can call us directly. Once we have enough information about you and your future drone goals, we’ll provide you a training contact. We’ll then schedule the time that works best for both parties to begin the training program. It’s that simple.
You can call us directly at 828.338.9792 or contact us via email.
